Ending Maternal Mortality in New York City: The Blueprint

You are cordially invited to “Ending Maternal Mortality in NYC: The Blueprint” on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the New York Academy of Medicine. Learn more and register here.

The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene respects and acknowledges the 241 women and birthing people who lost their lives in 2016-2020 to a maternal death, as well as the families they left behind. A disproportionate number were Black, non-Hispanic women.

The Sept. 25 convening of stakeholders across disciplines highlights a new report with 36 prioritized recommendations from the Maternal Mortality Review Committee to prevent future deaths. The recommendations are a Blueprint for change.

For those that lost their lives, for their families, and for all New Yorkers, this convening publicly shares this Blueprint with the steadfast hope that all stakeholders will engage in creating a plan to carry out its recommendations.

The NYC DOHMH is committed to implementing the MMRC report’s recommendations. This is the first of many citywide convenings to help support others in developing actionable strategies to implement recommendations. This report and the Sept. 25 launching event are a call to action for preventing maternal deaths. We hope you will join us in this work.

This event is co-sponsored by the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene and the New York Academy of Medicine.
