Abortion Training Initiative

New York Midwives (NYM) is proud to offer a structured training pipeline for licensed midwives interested in expanding their scope of practice to include abortion care. This initiative includes a step-by-step training process (outlined below) that blends didactic learning, simulation practice, and supervised clinical placement.

NYM Abortion Training Webinar Series

As part of our Abortion Training Initiative, NYM periodically hosts live webinar trainings designed to support midwives in building clinical knowledge, systems-based strategies, and practical skills for safe, evidence-based abortion care. These sessions may also fulfill didactic training requirements for eligible program participants when applicable.

At this time, no live webinar sessions are scheduled. Please check back periodically or stay tuned for announcements regarding future training opportunities.

An informational session recording remains available for midwives seeking an overview of the program and training pathway. This is the only session that may be viewed as a recording and still count toward participation requirements.

In-Person Simulation Skills Session

Clinical skills training is the final component of the NYM Abortion Training Program and is designed to provide participants with hands-on experience in manual vacuum aspiration (MVA) techniques, clinical protocols, and competency-based practice in a supervised setting. Completion of this training is required for consideration of clinical placement opportunities, depending on program requirements.

Upcoming Events

Join us for a full-day interactive training in Rochester, NY designed for midwives and midwifery students seeking to strengthen reproductive healthcare knowledge and procedural skills. This hands-on educational experience combines evidence-based didactic learning with clinical simulation focused on early pregnancy loss management, pain management for gynecologic procedures, cervical block simulation, and MVA procedure hand skills.
